Fruit and vegetable exports increased optimistically

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export value in May 2023 reached 600 million USD, an increase of 137.7% compared to the same month last year. With a record export level in May 2023, the total export value of fruits and vegetables in the first 5 months of 2023 has reached 1.97 billion USD, an increase of 39% compared to the same period last year. It is worth mentioning that, of the 1.97 billion USD, turnover from durian exports accounted for nearly 10%.

In the "bright spot" of export growth of fruit and vegetable products, durian exports increased to 573.1% over the same period last year, reaching 190.5 million USD. Durian exports are mainly to the Chinese market, with a value accounting for 84.3% of the total export value of durian fruits.

According to the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - Agriculture and Rural Development), since the beginning of June 2023, the department has coordinated with plant quarantine experts from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to carry out inspection and assessment. Furthermore, recently, Vietnam's durian exports just received more good news when Chinese Customs approved 47 more growing area codes and 18 packaging facilities that meet export requirements.

Accordingly, our country has 293 growing areas and 115 Vietnamese durian packaging facilities that have been granted official export codes by China to this market.

Bringing Vietnam - China agricultural trade to new heights

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen predicted that, with the signing of the protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Customs of China, along with the promotion of issuance of planting area codes and packaging facilities, durian exports will be very large. favorable. It is forecasted that in 2023, durian may "join" the group of export goods worth over 1 billion USD.

Currently, there are 11 types of Vietnamese fruits officially exported to China, including: Mango, dragon fruit, banana, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, jackfruit, mangosteen, passion fruit and durian. According to the Department of Trade Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Trade, China is considered the largest, important and potential export market for Vietnamese fresh fruits.

Within the framework of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), to date, China has reduced taxes on more than 8,000 imported products from Vietnam, including fresh fruit, opening up many opportunities for businesses. Enterprises can access this large market.
