To increase the amount of lychee exported to the US, leaders of Bac Giang province discussed with Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phu - Chairman of the Vietnamese Businessmen Association in the US (honorary representative of Bac Giang in the US) to prepare for participation. According to Mr. Hoang Trung, currently, the US and Australia are two markets that require lychees to be treated with irradiation. The Australian market has many advantages, as irradiation and fabric packaging are done right at the Hanoi Irradiation Center. Currently, the US market only accepts two facilities in Ho Chi Minh City and Long An that are qualified for irradiation and packaging.
To support lychee growers, the Plant Protection Department worked with APHIS, Global Food Import-Export Joint Stock Company and Hanoi Irradiation Center to install and add additional equipment to make this facility recognized. Qualified for irradiation and packaging of lychees for export to the US. It is expected that around the end of May 2023, the irradiation line control equipment set at the request of the US will be transferred to Vietnam.
For the Chinese market, in 2023, export consumption is expected to increase compared to 2022.
Regarding the Japanese market, this year, Japan has returned to the form of sending experts to Vietnam to directly supervise export lychee batches. This also supports the export of fabric to this market more conveniently and effectively.
"The Plant Protection Department has coordinated with relevant units to monitor and re-inspect the entire treatment plant in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces" - Mr. Hoang Trung said.
