Ben Tre discusses how to develop 5,800 hectares of high-tech shrimp

On May 4, at the conference "Solutions to develop areas focusing on high-tech shrimp farming on a scale of 300 hectares", Ben Tre agriculture sector set a goal of developing 5,800 hectares of high-tech shrimp by 2030.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi - deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre, by 2022, Ben Tre province will exploit an aquaculture area of about 47,590 hectares. Of which, the brackish water shrimp farming area accounts for about 36,300 hectares.

In recent years, people's investment in brackish water shrimp farming has increasingly increased. Most notably, the high-tech shrimp farming model brings high efficiency.

According to Mr. Buoi, one of the milestones marking the development of brackish water shrimp farming is the rapid transition from traditional intensive and semi-intensive farming to high-tech shrimp farming in the area. 3 districts: Ba Tri, Binh Dai and Thanh Phu.

Starting in 2018 with an area of only about 550 hectares, but by the end of 2022 the whole province will reach 2,567 hectares. Average productivity is 60-70 tons/ha of water surface, average profit is 700-800 million VND/crop, bringing high economic efficiency to people.

The high-tech shrimp farming model is considered one of the ways to raise shrimp that brings high economic efficiency, because this is a farming model that manages diseases well in shrimp, shrimp can be raised many times a year, reaching a good weight. As expected, the successful rate of farming is high, contributing to increased profits for companies and households investing in the model.

However, according to the agricultural sector of Ben Tre province, the development of high-tech shrimp farming areas is currently facing many difficulties due to many reasons. In particular, the reason is that irrigation infrastructure in many places is not complete, water supply and drainage canal systems are not guaranteed, causing difficulties for production activities and disease control.

Besides, people are still afraid to boldly invest in the two-phase shrimp farming model, because this is a high-tech shrimp farming model, with a large initial investment cost, but has not received much attention from the shrimp farmers. bank. While there is capital in the people, very few people are qualified to invest.

Mr. Buoi added that according to the roadmap, the province's agricultural sector will develop high-tech shrimp farming area by 2025 to 4,000 hectares with an output of 144,000 tons, by 2030 about 5,800 hectares with an output of 208,800 tons.
