Durian is the main crop with export strength of Dong Nai. With a total area of over 11.3 thousand hectares, Dong Nai currently ranks first in the Southeast region and fourth in the country in terms of durian area.
In mid-June 2023, for the first time, Dong Nai held the "Ceremony to announce the export of the first durian shipment according to the Protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Customs of China. On this occasion, the province organized a seminar "Improving quality standards, increasing the competitiveness of durian exported to the Chinese market" with the goal of increasing the competitive position of the province's durian fruit on the international playing field.
Dong Nai is implementing synchronous solutions from expanding the durian growing area, building a chain of links from production, purchasing, and processing to boost the export of this key crop.
Expected to export 20 thousand tons of durian
Durian is a key crop with export strength of Dong Nai. With a total area of over 11.3 thousand hectares, Dong Nai currently ranks first in the Southeast region and fourth in the country in terms of durian area. Of which, the harvested area is nearly 6.6 thousand hectares and the expected output in 2023 is about 69 thousand tons.
According to a report from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dong Nai is actively building planting area codes and packaging facilities for export to the Chinese market. To date, the whole province has 11 durian growing areas with an area of 820 hectares that have been granted growing area codes. It is expected that in 2023, Dong Nai will export 20 thousand tons of durian, bringing a value of 50 million USD.
At the seminar "Improving quality standards, increasing competitiveness of durian exported to the Chinese market" held in mid-June, opinions of durian exporting enterprises focused on the content of durian. Build a brand for Vietnamese durian in general and Dong Nai durian in particular with quality reputation. Among them, Dong Nai durian is highly appreciated for its quality.
Mr. Tu Chau, Deputy Consul General of China in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that Vietnam and China are promoting cooperation in import and export of agricultural products.
Due to the climate, China cannot grow durian trees while Chinese consumers love this delicious, nutritious fruit.
In the first 5 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 60 thousand tons of durian to China, worth 180 million USD, accounting for 85% of Vietnam's durian export value.
It is expected that by 2023, Vietnam's durian output exported to the Chinese market will increase significantly, possibly exceeding 1 billion USD. The Chinese Consulate General is ready to play an active role as a bridge to promote the export of Vietnamese agricultural products, especially from Dong Nai province, to China.
Also according to Mr. Tu Chau: "Supply is not enough for demand, so the price of durian in China is quite high. While surveying supermarkets, markets and durian growing areas of Vietnam, we were surprised at the delicious quality and cheap price of Vietnamese durian. Southern Vietnam, including Dong Nai province, has large durian output, high quality, and has potential for trade cooperation with China."
Focus on durian quality brands
In order to build the Dong Nai durian brand in the export market, the province is very interested in advertising and trade promotion activities for durian fruit. Accordingly, businesses exporting to farmers are also increasingly focusing on building the Dong Nai durian brand in the export market.
Mr. Do Quang Ha, General Director of Van Thanh Hy International Trading Company (Guangxi Province, China) said that Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises have had a cooperation process of more than 30 years in the field of import and export. fresh fruit.
Currently, the company is focusing on importing and trading Vietnamese durian in the Chinese market. Vietnamese durian imported by businesses has entered Chinese supermarkets and wholesale markets, gaining a certain foothold.
According to Mr. Ha: "During the cooperation process, we have witnessed the diligence of Vietnamese farmers to grow fruits with increasingly diverse types and increasingly better quality. We are committed to accompanying Vietnamese businesses in their efforts to expand the consumption market in China not only with durian fruit but also with safe Vietnamese fruit products."
