On January 14, 2021, the Ministry of Information and Communications (Ministry of Information and Communications) officially issued the IPv6 For Gov Program for the period 2021-2025, assigning the Vietnam Internet Center (VNNIC) to preside over the implementation. The IPv6 For Gov program has two phases: Phase 1 (2021-2022) with the main goal: 50% Ministries, branches and localities issue IPv6 plans and successfully convert IPv6 for Electronic Information Portal (TTĐT) , public service (DVC); Phase 2 (2023-2025) with main goal: 100% Ministries, branches and localities issue IPv6 plans and successfully convert IPv6 for e-portals and public services. In addition, during the past period, the Ministry of Information and Communications has pioneered and accompanied ministries, branches and localities to promote, support and ensure the successful implementation of the entire transition process. Change IPv6 for networks and IT services of state agencies (CQNN).
Phase 1 (2021-2022) of the IPv6 For Gov Program has achieved and exceeded the set goal with the result of 94% Ministries, branches and localities have issued IPv6 conversion plans (exceeding 88% compared to the Phase target). first); 78% Ministries, branches and localities have successfully converted IPv6 for e-information portals and public services (exceeding 55% compared to Phase 1 target); Trained 1,318 IPv6 officials/experts (2.6 times the 5-year target). The results of phase 1 of the IPv6 For Gov Program have shown the efforts of the Ministry of Information and Communications as well as local ministries and branches in converting Vietnam's Internet network to IPv6. This is also an important premise to enter phase 2 of the Program (2023-2025).
During the period 2023-2025, the IPv6 For Gov Program will focus and complete IPv6 conversion for Data Centers, WAN networks, software, and applications; Piloting pure IPv6 operations (IPv6 only) for some areas and services. The goal is to reach 100%. Ministries, branches and localities successfully convert IPv6 for network infrastructure, IT services and are ready to deploy IPv6 only.
At the conference, telecommunications businesses all said that it is necessary to convert infrastructure from IPv4 to IPv6. In the coming time, it is necessary to focus on converting IPv6 right at press agencies (currently still mainly using IPv4 systems), limit the import of IPv4 devices, and need to carry out stronger communication work on IPv6 conversion. At the same time, they also agreed to deploy to complete the national IPv6 goal (2023-2025)
