That is the issue that many experts are interested in and expect at the Global Logistics Conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 11.
The conference, organized by the World Logistics Association (WWPC), attracted hundreds of experts and leading businesses in the field of freight forwarding and maritime transport of oversized and overweight cargo worldwide.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Huynh Vi Phuc - General Director of Asia America Transport and Service Joint Stock Company (a member of WWPC Association) - said that the conference connecting transport businesses from all over the world in Asia, Europe, America, the Middle East, etc. was held for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City. Through this, logistics experts exchanged, agreed, and negotiated solutions to improve competitiveness and trends in the logistics industry in our country and the world.
The WWPC Association assesses that Ho Chi Minh City has advantages and potential for developing maritime transport, especially the transport of oversized and overweight cargo. In terms of geographical location, Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general are located in an advantageous area for transiting goods from other regions, suitable for oversized and overweight cargo up to thousands of tons.
Up to now, the Vietnamese Government has continuously reformed and simplified procedures for import and export goods, creating favorable conditions to attract investment. In addition, a series of projects on seaport infrastructure have attracted the attention of several major shipping lines such as BBC Chartering Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Air Canada Cargo, etc.
“However, the road and seaport infrastructure has not yet met the demand for continuous reception of oversized and overweight cargo. Enterprises and experts expect that in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will invest in infrastructure and accelerate the plan to build super transit ports such as Can Gio (Can Gio district) to attract goods from many countries.
In the long term, our country's seaports are fully capable of competing for "oversized, overweight" cargo with other countries such as Singapore and Indonesia...", Mr. Phuc affirmed.
Discussing the above issue, Ms. Tran Thi Hai Yen - Director of the Southern Investment Promotion Center, Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment) - assessed that this is a great opportunity for the logistics industry in Vietnam. Currently, our country has many large seaports with great potential for developing logistics networks.
In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province have also focused on investing and developing seaport infrastructure very strongly. On that basis, our country will attract goods and investment from businesses around the world to promote the logistics industry to develop further.
